Frequently asked questions
Wondering how to adopt, foster or support our rescue? Explore these common questions to get started on your journey with us.
How do I adopt a pet?
Browse our available dogs and cats online at SavourLife and PetRescue. When you find a companion you love, apply via the adoption form. After we check to ensure it's the perfect match, we’ll arrange a friendly Meet and Greet with the perspective dog or cat at the foster carer's property or nearby dog-friendly park.
Can I foster before adopting?
Yes! Not all dogs and cats are available for frosting, but it is a wonderful way to help animals and see if a pet fits your lifestyle. See if you're right for fostering by completing our Foster Carer's Readiness Checklist. If you're ready to foster, you'll be given he option to apply via our online Foster Carer's Application Form and we’ll reach out with next steps and support.
Where do the adoption fees go?
As a registered not-for-profit rescue, 100% of adoption fees go straight back into saving more lives. These fees help cover essential vet work such as desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, worming, and health checks. We also pay for CAR or AAR microchip registration.
Some animals arrive healthy and only require basic vet care that includes desexing, vaccination, and microchipping and typically costs between $400–$600 per animal through our Victorian vets. Others need more extensive treatment, including dental work, surgeries, or emergency care.
We rescue animals from regional and interstate pounds from Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales, so adoption fees help cover transport costs to bring them safely into care. Fees vary depending on the animal, but we’re always transparent about what’s included. Every adoption helps support the animals currently in care and allows us to continue providing vital support to our foster carers.
How can I donate or support?
There are so many ways to support our rescue work, and every single one makes a difference. You can donate directly via bank transfer or donate online, and every contribution, big or small, helps us care for and rehome animals in need.
You can also help just by being active on social media for us. Follow us on Facebook and share our posts to help us reach more animal lovers. Every LIKE, COMMENT, TAG and SHARE helps raise awareness, find new forever homes, attract new foster carers, and brings in vital donations to help cover transport and our ever growing vet bills.
The more people see our animals, the more lives we can save. So please whenever you share, comment or create a post please use @pyreneesanimalrescue whenever you can to drive more people to our page and hopefully more dogs and cats rescued.
Why haven’t I received a response yet?
We’re a small team of dedicated volunteers juggling jobs, families, and the daily logistics of rescuing and transporting animals all over Victoria, so sometimes it can take us a little while to respond. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.
We do our best to get back to everyone, whether it’s by email or Facebook Messenger. If you’ve commented on a Facebook post, please also send us a direct message, as comments can sometimes be missed. And if you haven’t heard back after a couple of weeks, don’t hesitate to follow up as sometimes messages do get lost in the digital void! Thanks for bearing with us; we’re grateful for your support!
