Pyrenees Animal Rescue's mission

We’re a 100% volunteer-run animal rescue based in Victoria, Australia, on a mission to give dogs and cats a second chance at life. Our work focuses on helping animals who’ve been privately surrendered, transferred from other rescue groups, or are at risk in pounds across Victoria, Queensland, and New South Wales. Every pet in our care is placed in a loving foster home with one of our incredible volunteers, who generously give their time, energy, and resources to provide everything from nutritious food and enrichment to training and medical care, until that perfect forever home comes along.

Every animal in our foster care receives full-circle support to ensure their health, happiness, and wellbeing. As a not-for-profit rescue, we’re entirely funded by adoption fees and generous donations, and every dollar goes straight to the animals who need it most. The funds we raise help cover essential care, including transport, vaccinations, microchipping with CAR registration, desexing, parasite treatment, and any additional veterinary needs.

Pyrenees Animal Rescue's history

In the wake of the devastating Grampians fires in 2014, two sisters that were bound by a deep love for animals, founded 'Pyrenees Animal Rescue' to care for injured native wildlife across the Pyrenees Ranges, Grampians National Park, and the surrounding regions of Ararat, Stawell, and St Arnaud. As their rescue efforts expanded, they quickly recognised another growing crisis – the rising number of abandoned and at-risk dogs and cats. With the same unwavering compassion, they were determined to meet this increasing need, so they dedicated themselves to building a network of foster carers, creating safe, nurturing homes for animals until they could find families of their own.

For over a decade, their unwavering passion has helped rescue hundreds of animals and empowered more than 200 foster carers to create lasting change. It's a story built on heart, resilience, and a deep commitment to giving every animal the second chance they deserve. Since 2014, Pyrenees Animal Rescue has grown thanks to a handful of incredibly dedicated individuals whose selfless generosity and tireless efforts have made it possible to save as many lives as we do.

Baby joey burnt legs
Baby joey bottle fed

Rescued from the Grampians National Park after the 2014 fires, this injured red neck wallaby had terrible burns, and was emaciated and severely dehydrated.

This beautiful little western grey had came straight from the fire grounds and was very grateful for a warm bottle. Many youngsters were observed eating sand and ash during the fires.
